Sun, 27 July 2008 ![]() Sermon Only 11:00 am Pastor Bob Hanna What Sign Do You Carry? Romans 14:9-13 Probably the number one reason I hear people say that they don't attend church is because it is filled with "hypocrites". People do not expect those at church to be perfect. But they do have a problem when we judge others when we ourselves are also guilty. Sun, 6 July 2008 ![]() Sermon Only 11:00 am Pastor Bob Hanna Faith and Politics Matthew 22:15-22 It has been said that there are two topics that people in polite conversation should avoid: religion and politics. On Sundays, I am usually allowed to talk about faith. On this Independence Day weekend I would like to cross the other forbidden taboo of politics. In my opinion, how we engage in politics is a matter of stewardship. It is stewardship of the gift that we have of living in this country. How do we do this in a pluralistic society? What about the “separation of Church and State” issues? Hopefully, this sermon will also be a primer for you to consider attending one of our three adult Sunday School Classes (9:30 am - Discovery, Parables; 10:45 am - Cornerstone). They will be using study materials developed by Dianne Watson from a book by Tony Campolo titled, “Red Letter Christians: A Citizen’s Guide to Faith and Politics” First Chrisitan Church of Salem, OR Bob Hanna, Senior Minister 685 Marion St. NE Salem OR 97301 ph: 503-363-9273 fax: 503-378-0971 email: Salem First Christian Church web: www.salemfcc.org Comments[0] |
